The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: Dolphins Vs Denver

I’m hooked on a feeling, I’m high on believingBlue Swede

Remember that stuff…That stuff the Miami Dolphins used to do a whole lot of back in the day? What was it… oh yeah, win.

Well, after five tortuous weeks in the losers bracket, Adam Gase & Co. claimed their first win since Week 7 — As the Miami Dolphins (5-7) walloped a struggling Denver Broncos (3-9) in route to a 35-9 home win.

Offensively, the 30th best offense in scoring played smart and leaned heavily on its second year RB Kenyan Drake.

Drake, rushed for a career-high 120 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. According to Sun-Sentinel, the former Alabama standout notched the first 100-yard rushing performance by someone other than former running back Jay Ajayi since 2015.

Defensively, the Miami Dolphins were outstanding! Where has this defense been all season Matt Burke? Lead by outstanding play from the defensive backfield, Cornerback Xavien Howard recorded two interceptions, including a pick-6.

Let this sink in for a second…. the Dolphins had 3 INTs in Week 11, they had four total on the season.

Overall, The Dolphins were damn good. I mean really, really good. It kind of makes you wonder what this team could be if the offense were even top-20 in scoring. The defense flat out made Trevor Siemian play scared (19 of 41, 200 yards, three interceptions, 30.5 passer rating). While I certainly enjoyed the win yesterday, I’m looking ahead to next Monday, as the Miami Dolphins take on the New England Patriots here in beautiful Miami, Fl.

The Good

Kenyan Drake

I’ve been waiting for the moment Kenyan Drake would take that next step. He finally delivered in Week 11.

Averaging 4.9 yards per rush this season, Drake has become far more than a 3rd down back. The main reason…. his legs literally never stop churning after contact.

With Damien Williams injured and no timeline of return, welcome to the No.1 spot, Drake. It’s your time to shine!

Xavien Howard –

The Sophomores played outstanding today, simple as that. Howard dominated in protection today, recording two interceptions including a pick-6. His five passes defends tied for the most in an NFL game this season, and the former Baylor standout held the always dangerous Demaryius Thomas to 1 reception for 6 yards.

Oh yeah… did I mention the pick six was the first of his career?

The Bad

Jay Cutler INT –

I am a giant Jay Cutler fan…. no BS

My problem with Cutler are the throws like this. Solid protection, Kenyan Drake with space in coverage, and the 34-year old chooses to fire in between two defenseman for the easy pick-6.

The Ugly

Mike Pouncey –

While this is strictly my opinion and only my opinion, “ Why does Mike Pouncey still play for the Miami Dolphins”?

Don’t get me wrong, when healthy he’s easily a top 3 center in the NFL. The problem? He’s never healthy.

Pouncey, who was injured against Denver today, and was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game upon suffering the hamstring injury will likely be questionable moving into week 12. But what game hasn’t he been questionable is the question?

The Dolphins can cut $7 million next season by relieving Pouncey at his position come next season and at this point,  it seems like a clear cut answer.
