Top 30 Players in Dolphins History: #30 Sam Madison

As the 2015 NFL season winds down, it is getting close to that time of year when we begin counting the days, weeks and months until next season kicks off. With 30 weeks left until the 2016 season is kicked off, we decided to give you a list of the top 30 players in Dolphins history.

We start at #30 on the defensive side of the ball with a man still deeply involved with the Miami Dolphins, Sam Madison.

Madison was a second round pick (44th overall) of the Miami Dolphins out of Louisville in 1997. He appeared in 14 games his first year and recorded 2 forced fumbles and an interception. After a year of learning as a rookie, Madison elevated his game and turned himself into a shutdown corner for the Dolphins. He recorded 8 interceptions his sophomore year, followed by 7 more interceptions in 1999. From 1999-2002, Madison made the Pro Bowl all four years and was an All-Pro for three of those years.

Most Dolphins fans think of Patrick Surtain when they also think of Sam Madison. The two cornerbacks teamed up to create one of the NFL’s most feared CB duos during the late 90’s and early 2000’s. They combined for 697 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 60 interceptions and 2 touchdowns during their time together in the Miami defensive backfield.

While Madison did not play his whole career in sunny South Florida, he left a lasting mark on our prestigious franchise. For 9 years, he was a strong leader on a defense with names like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. Although he recorded 16 of his 31 interceptions in a Dolphins uniform during his first three years, his impact on the defensive side of the ball was still felt each week over the entirety of his career.

Today, Madison resides in Davie, FL with his wife and works for WTVX as a Dolphins analyst.
